The window industry has a high failure rate. Companies quote cheap, cut corners on installation, and disappear when there's a problem. Here's how to avoid them.
First, ask who's actually fitting the windows. If the answer is subcontractors, you don't know who's coming to your house or whether they've done this specific job before. Our fitters are direct employees — Mark, Jake, Simon and James — all with years of experience fitting our exact products.
Second, ask about aftercare. What happens if a handle breaks in three years? A national company routes you through a call centre. A local company sends the fitter who did the job. The difference in response time is days vs weeks.
Third, check the guarantee structure. There are typically two guarantees: one from the manufacturer on the product (10–25 years) and one from the installer on the fitting (1–10 years). Make sure you know what each covers. A good installer guarantees their own work for at least 5 years.
Fourth, ask for a written survey. A proper survey measures every brick opening, checks the existing structure, notes any issues, and forms the basis of the quote. A quote based on room measurements and a phone call is a red flag.
Fifth, don't choose on price alone. A quote that's £1,000 cheaper than the others usually means cheaper hardware, less experienced fitters, or a margin that leaves no room for aftercare. Windows are a 20+ year investment — the cheapest option is rarely the best value.
